Communications Technology business unit grows stronger: EQOS Energie acquires TCT
Biberach (Germany), 4 October 2021 - EQOS Energie Deutschland GmbH, a Triton Fund IV portfolio company and one of the leading service providers of technical infrastructures in Europe, continues to grow and sets another strategic milestone with the acquisition of TCT TechnikCentrumThale GmbH on 1 October 2021: The takeover of the Saxony-Anhalt-based infrastructure service provider TCT, which specialises in the telecommunications market, is the third acquisition since the start of 2019. With more than 230 TCT employees in the Thale, Berlin and Leipzig locations, EQOS Energie doubles its staff in the Communications Technology business unit to about 500 employees. The same applies to sales, which are expected to reach EUR 120 million for the current fiscal year. As a result and subject to the cartel authorities’ approval, EQOS Energie will become Germany’s leading full-service provider.
“TCT contributes more than 30 years of experience with proven expertise and a very motivated team,” said Eric Mendel, CEO of EQOS Energie and head of the Communications Technology business unit. “This represents an excellent complement to the existing extensive service portfolio of EQOS Energie. The combination of TCT and EQOS Energie offers a unique opportunity for both our companies, and we will sustainably expand our leadership position in the field of Communications Technology.” As a turnkey provider, TCT delivers all services for the planning, development and realisation of projects from a single source. These include site acquisition and development, engineering, steel construction, structural and civil engineering, connection and mobile telecommunications commissioning of the site, overall site integration and the required project management.
Additional strengths in the Communications Technology business unit
The capabilities of TCT and EQOS Energie are complementary on many levels: The broad positioning of both companies affords them access to additional attractive projects. As a result, EQOS Energie complement their customer portfolio with another established mobile communications provider. From now on, EQOS Energie and TCT will jointly work for the top three providers. Apart from synergies in project management, this also strengthens the company’s regional focus, especially in northeastern Germany. Thanks to the nationwide geographical coverage, proximity to the customers will be further expanded this way.
Over the past few months, the role of the internet as critical infrastructure has become more clearly apparent than ever. The continuous broadband expansion and the implementation of the new 5G mobile communications standard have finally taken center stage in the political arena for good. Mendel continued: “Over the next few years, the telecommunications industry and therefore also our company will strongly benefit from these developments. This is an additional reason why we are pleased about the acquisition of TCT.”
A separate EQOS Communications brand for increased significance in the company’s portfolio
With this acquisition, the Communications Technology business model at EQOS Energie is becoming significantly more important. In the future, this will also be reflected in the brand architecture of the infrastructure service provider: The business unit will be managed as the separate brand EQOS Communications within the group. “At the operating level, we are clearly differentiating the two business models of Energy and Communications in the interest of our customers. Historically, apart from the business model, the market, support and customer structure have always been different. With the new “EQOS Communications” brand, we make a clear commitment to our telecommunications business and logically underscore its significance,” Mendel said about this measure. The customers of the Energy industry will continue to be served by EQOS Energie.
Good business relationships in the past
“Colleagues from TCT and EQOS Energie have known each other for many years from the operating collaboration in various projects. We are convinced that EQOS Energie offers the best platform for us in order to write the next chapter of our corporate history. In light of these positive signs, we are looking forward to this exciting challenge and the pooling of our capabilities,” said Jan Wragge, managing director at TCT. In the future, Jan Wragge, together with Jan-Patrick Göppert (also TCT), will continue to be responsible for the company’s communications business.
“We would like to thank everybody who supported us during this important acquisition and put their trust in us. We are looking forward to the future collaboration in this strong constellation. On behalf of the entire management, I would like to extend a cordial welcome to our new colleagues,” Mendel concluded.
